What is it about?

This paper explains the asymmetric temperature field in the aluminum alloy in the vicinity of FSW-tool.

Why is it important?

Friction stir welding forms an asymmetric temperature field in the vicinity of FSW-tool. As its result, the mechanical properties of materials after welding become asymmetric due to the different thermal history at each position. The paper provides the reason why the FSW joints show asymmetric properties and the preferred state of the temperature field.
