What is it about?
A major problem confronting the education of students in many health professions is assessing what they do on clinical placements in (often) non-university clinical facilities. Like campus-based assessment, such assessments need to be conducted in a manner that is objective and fair, and is seen to be objective and fair. These assessments are usually undertaken by non-university staff working at the clinical placement. One clinical site might also have students from different universities, and each university may have different expectations and guidelines about assessment. Even when a university provides assessment guidelines and criteria, there is a need to interpret them in the context of service requirements of the clinical facility. When students are directly involved in providing patient care, the clinical facility will have standards and demands that directly and complexly impact on assessment of students.
