What is it about?

We used high speed centricollation to separate the subcellular fractions of human corneal epithelial cells expressing a shRNA vector that reduces transglutaminase-2. We discovered that different cellular proteins are expressed in these fractions, suggesting that TG2 has a role in expression or trafficking of these proteins.

Why is it important?

Centricollation can be used to prepare subcellular fractions for immunoblots rapidly. This is highly useful in further research involving protein trafficking etc. This method does not require large volumes, and avoids the difficulty of balancing solutions in ultracentrifugation.


This is a valuable and rapid method of studying cell trafficking between compartments.
