Several studies had compared "D2-like receptor availability" in obese vs. healthy-weight people. But this was the first study in people to measure D2 receptors specifically, using a method that is not affected by intrasynaptic dopamine concentrations at the time of the scan. The sample size was large enough to show that we could not have missed a big effect by chance.
