What is it about?

The good mechanical properties of tool steel are set by the production route, the chemical composition, and the heat treatment carried out. In this publication, a simulation model for a widely used tool steel (1.2379/D2) has been developed and validated to calculate these properties with a variation of heat treatment and chemical composition.

Why is it important?

Thanks to the simulation model developed, the heat treatment can now be optimized without having to carry out cost-intensive experimental test series. This is to be regarded as positive, especially due to the constantly rising energy costs for gas and electricity and the associated CO2 savings.
