What is it about?
A novel technique of estimating the intensity of atmospheric turbulence in flow over mountainous terrain, and its application to mountain-wave-induced turbulent phenomena.

Why is it important?
The results of this work show a way of remotely measuring in turbulent regions of atmospheric flow, which are hazardous to sample using research aircraft. The Doppler radar technique offers two-dimensional, quasi-instantaneous cross-sections of turbulence intensity across a mountain range.
