Why is it important?

Harsh corporal punishment is highly prevalent in the Philippines, and street youth are particularly vulnerable due to their families' exposure to severe poverty. However, their perspective has seldom been investigated. This study also contibutes to the current advocacy for the anti-corporal punishment bill in the Philippines.

Perspectives

This study shows how a very vulnerable population can be empowered to take social action on harsh corporal punishment they experience. PAR served not only to generate knowledge, but also as an intervention. Addressing the issue of harsh corporal punishment in the family context in the Philippines is of utmost importance for the wellbeing of the children affected.
