What is it about?

The two biotechnological disciplines fermentation and purification are often considered seperately. This leads to challenges and bottlenecks especially in the course of purification steps. These are caused by the properties of the fermentation broth. If fermentation is for example optimised towards high product titers, this can lead to a broth that has high viscosities as cells tend to lyse and this results in low centrifugation efficiencies. This example shows that the whole process has to be taken in mind and the disciplines must not be considered as indivudual and indepent
