What is it about?

This is a letter to the editor, concerning our 2014 Arthritis and Rheumatology publication "Cdk9 Inhibition Protects Cartilage from the Catabolic Effects of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines". We used a PCR-Array to show that the activation of most IL-1 response genes was prevented by Cdk9 inhibitors. The letter writer accurately points out that not all response genes were affected. In our reply, we agree that this is the case. There are interesting genes that were not affected by Cdk9. Perhaps this may be a matter of timing, as we only tested one time point by PCR-Array. It certainly warrants further investigation - stay tuned...

Why is it important?

We greatly appreciate readers of Arthritis & Rheumatology making an effort to carefully read our manuscript, and offer suggestions and interpretations. We would not have paid as much attention to the genes that were unaffected in our system had it not been for these comments. These genes are definitely interesting and may contribute to OA pathogenesis after injury.

Perspectives

This is the first time one of our manuscripts was commented on in a letter to the editor manner. We definitely welcome the additional insight of readers into our work.
