What is it about?

Reclaimed waste tire rubber was recycled by blending with a common plastic, EVA, to enhance the properties. Ionizing radiation was also used to enhance the properties of the blends.

Why is it important?

Waste tire rubber was successfully recycled by blending with plastic. Improved properties and ease of processing will open new markets for this recycled product and ensure continuous improvement in waste tire management.

Perspectives

This paper outlined the lack of properties enhancement in waste tire rubber blend are due to presence of radical stabilizing and scavenging additives in the rubber. Determining the type matrix material is important in designing a tough blend.
