Why is it important?

Nicotinic receptors are targeted for therapeutic delivery in substance abuse as well as in other neurological disorder. In this work, the researchers showed that nicotine directly affects astrocyte activity through nicotinic receptors. These findings can provide insights on alternative targets for therapeutic applications of drugs in the brain.

Perspectives

It was a great pleasure to work on this project. I got to collaborate with many other researchers and they were very helpful. We believe this publication helped to establish the important role of astrocytes in substance use disorder.
