What is it about?

As the world’s largest primary energy consumer and greenhouse gas emitter, undoubtedly, China has a critical role in global GHG emission mitigation. Till now there are only two GHG inventories of China from national communications on climate change, and rare research focused on building a long-timescale and comprehensive GHG emission inventory covering the notable sources. This paper presents a long-timescale GHG emission inventory estimated with the most recently released official national statistical data, covering main emission sources, most greenhouse gas types, and all national economic sectors.

Why is it important?

It presented a long-timescale and detailed GHG emission inventory of China and carried out a discussion about the effect of data revision on GHG emissions.

Perspectives

We found that the data adjustment also has a profound impact on the CO2 emission per unit of GDP, as well as the accomplishment of CO2 emission reduction target in relative quantity.
