Project

Stem Cell Therapy Research: preclinical evaluation in large animal models and extracellular vesicles

Javier Casado

What is it about?

The Stem Cell Therapy Unit at CCMIJU is a research group focused in several projects based on stem cell therapies for the treatment of cardiovascular and inflammatory-related diseases

Why is it important?

The preclinical research is a building block for increasing the understanding of stem cells biology and plays a critical role to predict the efficacy of adult stem cells in clinical trials

Perspectives

Preclinical trials in large animal models is a significant step for future treatments in humans, being a necessary step to evaluate the safety, feasibility, dosage, engraftment and toxicity of adoptively transferred cells. Our research group is currently focused on the applicability and therapeutic potential of microvesicles released by stem cells in the treatment of inflammatory-related diseases. Our main efforts are directed against myocardial infarction and adverse inflammatory reactions.
