What is it about?

Korean society is often described as dynamic - this perception contrasts sharply with Korea’s historical image as backward and stagnant. To understand this contrast, we explore how Korean culture and society evolved ; we trace the archetype and evolution of Korean' character.

Why is it important?

Most researchers on Koreans focus on either contemporary Korea or old Korea. This paper notes the continuity of Koreans' character running through her history of past two thousand years. It provides a perspective to accommodate two contrasting views of being stagnant and being dynamic.

Perspectives

This paper is an invitation to take a historical look into Korea. I weave a narrative which allows readers to connect old Koreans in Three Kingdoms Period with contemporary Koreans. If you want to understand dynamic K-culture, you will see where it comes from and how it has evolved.
