What is it about?

We investigated whether some blood-based protein biomarkers can detect subjects in risk of developing future cancers, which was the case. Furthermore, we verified that one of the tested biomarkers TIMP-1 is associated to age.

Why is it important?

This is important because cancer is costs healthcare systems huge amounts of dollars annually. Blood-based biomarker screening may be part of the solution that lowers costs and improves patient outcomes.

Perspectives

Screening for different cancer types may lower the costs and patient both morbidity and mortality. Blood based biomarker screening for cancer may aid in detecting subjects in risk of cancer earlier and refer them to the right department before the cancer ends as high stage cancer. Furthermore, combined blood-based biomarker screening can be used in watching of cancer recurrence.
