What is it about?

Disruption of the process of swallowing (dysphagia) can occur after a major damage to the brain. Beside the severity of dysphagia, other conditions of the patient can be important to predict if dysphagia can improve after rehabilitation. Here we show that two of these conditions are poor general functional conditions and cognitive impairment.

Why is it important?

This observation underlines the importance of comprehensive and tailored rehabilitation strategies. If all conditions of each patients are evaluated and taken care of, rehabilitation of dysphagia can give better results.
