What is it about?

Caffeine and Aminophylline are being used to treat apnea of prematurity over the years. Aminophylline less expensive drug used more commonly in developing countries and as effective as Caffeine. This article highlights about long term neurological outcome of preterm neonates with apnea of prematurity treated with either of the drug.

Western world more familiar with use Caffeine citrate to treat Apnea of prematurity compared to Aminophylline which as equally effective and less expensive.

Perspectives

Extensive use of Caffeine in preterm neonates compared to Aminophylline could be partly due to Phrama-Industry promoted interventions Our experience clearly shows both drugs equally effective in treating apnea of prematurity,however Aminophylline less expensive and easily available.
