Why is it important?

We examine multiple indicators of the built environment on adverse birth outcomes. We show that high traffic exposure has a small to moderate association with adverse birth outcomes in 71% of the studies which examined this relationship.

Perspectives

Investigation of the built environment moves attention away from individual-level risk factors to those which are beyond women's control.
