What is it about?

Some networks that are usually involved in other functions take over the memory during the early stages of Alzheimer's, as proposed in the new compensatory theories of the brain. The In-out test unmasks the latent amnesia by distracting the auxiliary networks while the patient tries to memorize several words.

Why is it important?

The In-out-test allows detection of individuals at risk of AD in good agreement with the comparative study of Alzheimer's biomarkers. The In-out-test may be useful for accurate clinical decisions, including the evaluation of the pertinence of lumbar puncture, starting earlier treatments, and correctly selecting true controls and very early AD patients in clinical trials.

Perspectives

It has been so hard to carry out this investigation and to change paradigms is challenging. I hope In-out-test aids other groups accurately choose patients and controls both for brain function research and clinical essays for future treatments.
