What is it about?

Normally bulbous bows are added to ships for one purpose, to make the ship operate as efficiently as possible at a design ship speed. No one has determined the effect that the bulbous bow has on the motion of the ship in waves. So the paper explores the effects of different shaped bulbous bows on the motion of the ship in waves.

Why is it important?

Resistance of a ship is vital in terms of being minimised to reduce the burning of fuel. The reduction of motions are to making the ship more comfortable for passengers and also to reduce the stresses and strains on cargo.

Perspectives

This is an important publication because it addresses a different design option.
