What is it about?
Non muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is a broad disease where the most serious event is progression to muscle-invasive disease, which implies more aggressive management and a significant risk of cancer-specific mortality (death due to the disease). It is of paramount importance to be able to predict the evolution of NMIBC once diagnosed in order to tailor treatments. Several classification systems have been published to date, but in this systematic review (highest evidence for a review) we demonstrate that their ability to predict the outcomes of the disease is limited.

Why is it important?
It is the first systematic review on the field, and the conclusions show that the tools we currently have to predict disease recurrence and progression are limited.
Perspectives
We need better ways to predict disease recurrence and progression in NMIBC, probably adding some molecular features and also including machine learning models into our clinical practice.
