What is it about?

This article explores the pronouns used by Malala Yousafzai in her activist life-writing texts, tracking the "I" and the "we" and assessing the nature of collaboration and the degree of co-construction present in all of them. Such rhetorical strategies are typical of contemporary youth activists (see Martínez García 2020).

Why is it important?

Mediation has so far not given enough attention in the case at hand. Attention must be paid to the different persons and organizations involved in shaping this activist's agenda and her life-storytelling project. The present research may help illuminate the testimonial nature of these texts.

Perspectives

The article looks at the whole life-writing project of Malala Yousafzai, attempting to provide an overview of discursive strategies that have been a constant feature in her activism, while an evolution is also noticeable as the years go by.
