What is it about?

Managing time effectively involves metacognitive processing skills, such as estimating time, organizing and following through with plans while exercising emotional control for optimal goal achievement. Time management is defined as the awareness that time can be manipulated. It is the active use of skills, strategies, and tools used in creating and maintaining a flexible routine while evaluating one’s personal effectiveness.

Why is it important?

Time management skills are important for success in treatment programs. As individuals learn to manage their mental illness or begin to recover from substance abuse, time management skills are essential in regaining positive control over their lives and in optimizing daily functioning. It is important for these people to independently prioritize their daily routine, including appointments, family and social obligations, and work.
