Why is it important?

The peoples and languages of Africa, and particularly of Northeastern Africa, was a special focus of Harold C. Fleming's research, but he also emphasized the original unity of the human race and its origins in Africa and spread to the rest of the world. Contributors' articles explore the fine details and implications of this approach in the languages, cultures, and biological properties of humans in many parts of the world and diverse periods of human prehistory.

Perspectives

I knew Harold Crane Fleming over a period of three decades, during which I enjoyed his constant counsel, discussion and encouragement. It was a great honor to collect this anthology of articles by eminent scholars in celebration of Professor Fleming's eightieth birthday in 2006.
