This article examines the usage of image schemas in Egyptian and Ethiopian commentaries on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to construct an ideological context of geopolitical division, inequality, and power asymmetries.

Why is it important?
This study should make a significant contribution to the literature because it examines the cognitive aspect of Egypt and Ethiopia’s political stance on the issue of GERD in the context of international relations. Further, this paper will be of interest to a wide range of readers because it highlights the use of language in the creation of particular discourses that can be strategically powerful but may or may not benefit the originator’s cause.
Perspectives
Writing this paper was a great pleasure. I also hope that reading this article might provide people with a new angle on the Egyptian-Ethiopian dispute. It analyses the geopolitical discourse around water while offering a multilateral and unilateral assessment of the governance of and access to the Nile as a water resource.
