What is it about?

We studied how and why native Turkish speakers have issues with alternating English verbs. We investigated proficiency and how similar verbs in Turkish work. We wanted to see if there was an effect of similar verbs across the two languages.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that transfer between languages is not binary: it is gradient. Frequent items in L1 get transferred to L2 or influence judgment. This is not the case when the item in L2 is low in frequency in both languages.
