What is it about?

In many contexts, primary school children are learning a foreign language at school, but does their language proficiency benefit from learning at a younger age? This paper examines differences between early and late startes. Also, it examines the role of teachers and their qualification. The study did not find differences between early and late starters, however, it found evidence that teacher qualification is significant.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that it is insufficient to only consider learners' language proficiency when evaluating early start policies. It shows that it is important to also consider teachers as an important variable.
