What is it about?

The article deals with the public. legal and popular dispute about removing of the statue in honor to Primo de Rivera ,the falangist leader in Granada, Spain . Primo de Rivera is considered a "hard core" symbol of the Franco dictatorship' s regime. According with the Historical Memory Law all the symbols of the regime must be removed but with several exceptions. The struggle about the outdoor statue illustrates the complex dynamic of the Linguistic landscape discourse and the role of the different agents in its construction.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that the patrimonial discourse in Granada under different regimes maintained its pivotal role in the urban discourse including in the case of the implementations of the Historical Memory Law. We combined ethnographic methodology with iconographical analysis and opened a new path in LL's studies as well in Memory studies.
