What is it about?

The paper analyses the ways Brexit has been conceptualized, and relates those to media representations of Brexit. The paper focuses on the first days on which Brexit transited from a purely hypothetical towards an actual possibility in the minds of EU citizens (i.e. June, 23rd 2016, when a national referendum on the UK’s leaving the EU was held and the following 3 days).

Why is it important?

Brexit, i.e. the withdrawal of the UK from the EU, is an event, which, regardless of its course and destination, is bound to have a lasting impact on international political, economic, cultural, ethnic, etc. domains.

Perspectives

I hope this article makes people aware of the way 'their own' conceptualizations of Brexit have been actually created by and guided by public figures and media.
