What is it about?

Disturbingly for many observers, ISIS attracted thousands of European foreign fighters. The most important means of recruitment is ISIS’ digital communication strategy. We analyse ISIS propaganda videos which are disseminated via social media and specifically target potential recruits in the West. We find that they contain classical elements of a romantic story, which may help to understand the appeal ISIS has in certain parts of Western society.
