What is it about?

Language corpora offer lots of linguistic information. There are, however, two main problems in for corpora with historical data: 1) How is it possible to uncover coherent time series and 2) How can one obtain information about the spatial conditions of a language change? This paper is dedicated to both issues and presents new information on the phenomena under discussion.

Why is it important?

The results are consistent with the literature, but exceed those of other studies in relation to some important points, particularly with regard to the periodization of the language change. For the first time the historical stages of the language change are documented on maps.
