What is it about?

The parables share a common argumentative structure. Thereby, the storyteller attempts to persuade the audience. The article reveals this technique by using modern argumentation analysis. It also shows what this means in practice by reading some crucial parables in the gospel of Matthew.

Why is it important?

The teachings of Jesus consist to a great extent of parables. These stories shape our values and thinking in many ways. Unfortunately, both the churches and the academia have misread the parables. The time for understanding them in the way originally designed is long overdue.

Perspectives

It is fascinating to see how some of the oldest and most studied stories get finally opened by using modern argumentation analysis.
