This paper investigates the occurrence, forms and pronunciation of filled pauses occurring in Hungarian (L1) and in English (L2) spontaneous speech.

The results of the study provide information about the operations of covert speech planning processes depending on diverse languages and different L2 competence of speakers.

Perspectives

Analyzing filled pauses in speech contributes to understand the intelligibility, naturalness, and level of foreign-accent impression of non-native speech. We intend to continue our research.
