The article shows how translation can be used to explore spacial cognition across languages.

Why is it important?
Literary masterpieces are often translated into a variety of languages and hence are readily available as a rich source of empirical data in cross-linguistic research. We use examples from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass along with its Czech translations to demonstrate how the methodology of parallel texts can be fruitful in exploring language systems.
Perspectives
The greatest benefit of parallel texts as a methodology lies in their versatility. They provide a deep insight into any language phenomenon from a cross-linguistic point of view. Studying language of space is only one of the possible application.
