What is it about?

Much of the existing research in Sociolinguistics that has been reported thus far has come from the Anglo-Western societies of North America and Europe. Asia-Pacific region is home to much of the linguistic diversity and is full of multifaceted communities that are socially and culturally very different from the communities studied so far. The Journal provides a forum to report Sociolinguistic research on the linguistic communities from Asia-Pacific.

Why is it important?

This will expand the knowledge base and will enrich the field of Sociolinguistics in particular and Linguistics in general.

Perspectives

Potential of this Journal: The journal has the potential to shift the research focus from the socially dominant groups of the Anglo-western North America and Europe (as has been the case thus far) to the newer groups embedded in varied social settings of Asia-Pacific. This will help us understand the relations that exist among various groups and languages that coexist in a space. It will also pave the way for asking newer questions, enrich methodology for studying speech communities, and will eventually lead to newer findings.
