Why is it important?

Reflecting on the history of applied linguistics is essential for planning the future more effectively. Insights from experienced and junior researchers alike enable us to reflect on these developments and the field’s ability to address real-world challenges with both objectivity but commitment.

Perspectives

This project began as a deeply human adventure—a meeting in 2017 with Isabel Colón de Carvajal and Nathalie Blanc and Grégory Miras that sparked a journey of collaboration to promote applied linguistics. Completed with Shona Whyte, this book stands as a testament to countless hours of collective work and the enduring legacy of both the Association internationale de linguistique appliquée and the Association française de linguistique appliquée since 1964. It is a celebration of the field’s evolution, its challenges, and its commitment to fostering meaningful change.
