Why is it important?
Feeling in control of our actions is a crucial part of daily life. Researchers studying this subjective experience—known as the sense of agency—often focus primarily on vision and how we perceive our body’s movement in space. However, touch plays an equally important role that is usually overlooked. Using a novel experimental design, we establish that touch is a key factor in our subjective experience of agency and introduce a tool to further explore its role.
