What is it about?

This study was undertaken to show case NACO, Government of India that Delhi State AIDS Control Society is prepared to launch WHO 2010 PMTCT Guidance and we want to phase out the partially effective Single Dose Nevirapine Regimen and adopt more efficacious evidence based ARV prophylaxis Regimen.

Why is it important?

Despite availability of Option A / Option B PMTCT approaches since 2010 NACO has been implementing PMTCT program in India using SdNVP and not considering the better approaches to prevent pediatric HIV infections

Perspectives

This study helped NACO realize that new approach to prevent MTCT of HIV should be implemented in Delhi and the country. NACO rolled out Option B+ PMTCT approach in Dec, 2013 in line with global objective of eliminating Pediatric HIV transmission by 2020.
