What is it about?
Drug resistant microorganisms are evading conventional drugs at a horrifying rate causing difficulties with treatment of infectious diseases. In view of this, we investigated a microorganism that can produce antibiotics and found it can kill some of the disease causing bugs. We worked further with the microorganisms and discovered it to produce 13 important compounds. All the compounds have useful biological activities, however, 4 among will require further investigation. We concluded that the organism found locally could serve as a valuable source for lead compounds for pharmaceutical purposes.

The discovery will assist with more investigations into discovering more lead compounds to fortify or replacing the weak drugs currently in use.
Perspectives
