Why is it important?

Cinnamomum verum J. Presl (Lauraceae family), generally referred to cinnamon, develops for the most part in South and South-East Asia and its bark is rich in essential oil (EO) with strong antimicrobial activity Although the oil from various parts of the world has appeared extraordinary differences in chemical composition. In the last few years C. verum bark and essential oils extracts demonstrated strong antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacteria and fungi.

Perspectives

Based in our obtained results the essential oil of C. verum bark had high potential as antimicrobial agent, therefore, recommended for more advanced studies to be conducted on this abundant plant as natural source of antibiotics.
