What is it about?

This study investigated bacterial contamination of naira notes and its potential to serve as environmental material for the transmission of bacterial pathogens among food dealers. The study isolated E. coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa etc from the samples.

Why is it important?

This is important to prevent transmission of bacteria pathogens among the population through handling and exchange of paper currency. Bacteria Pathogens on the surfaces of naira notes can contaminate food leading to foodborne diseases and intoxications.

Perspectives

This publication helps to educate Nigerians on the potentials of transmission of disease-causing bacteria through improper handling of naira notes (paper currency)
