Why is it important?
Low Birth Weight is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. So finding the prevalence and determinants of Low Birth Weight in Maseru Lesotho will help in policy formulation and actions to reduce both the burden and its effects
Perspectives
This article has found that the prevalence of Low Birth Weight is high in Lesotho and many associated factors were identified. They included unclean sources of energy, indecent jobs, multiple gestation, HIV infections, history of hypertension in pregnancy and prematurity. Early and preventive measures especially during antenatal care such as blood pressure monitoring will reduce the effect. Policy changes on pregnant women working in indecent jobs will be helpful though difficult to implement.
