What is it about?

Ash is an important soil amendment either from the wood or any other source. We have shown for the firs time the Dry Cocoa Bean Shell Ash (DCBSA) either applied alone or mixed with NPK fertiliser can improve soil fertility thereby reducing the dependency on mineral fertiliser for crop production.

Why is it important?

We introduced the use of Dry Cocoa Bean Shell Ash which hitherto constituted environmental problem to Cocoa growing and processing countries of the World. We defined Cocoa Bean Shell Ash, how it can be produced. We also itemized the compositions of the Cocoa Bean Shell Ash and showed its effects either used alone or in conjunction with mineral fertilizer on degraded soil. We were able to show that Cocoa Bean Shell Ash contained huge amount of Potassium, Calcium, magnesium Organic matter Total soil Nitrogen and available soil phosphorus etc

Perspectives

Improving water use efficiency in agriculture will require an increase in crop water productivity i.e., an increase in marketable crop yield per unit of water used by plant and reduction in water losses from the crop root zone.
