What is it about?
Most studies in the area of poverty have focused on the phenomena as an economic issue rather than social and cultural. Besides, the very few studies that looked at understanding poverty have also focused on urban poverty, neglecting the perspectives of rural folks. This suggests a lacuna in literature. It is against this background that this paper aims to examine the social and cultural interpretations of poverty, its causes, and effects, from the perspectives of local actors.
