What is it about?

Sixteen red sokoto goats weighing on average 9.36kg were used in a completely randomized design for 12 weeks. Balanites agyptiaca was fed in graded levels (100, 200 and 300g) for treatments B, C and D respectively. Treatment A (urea treated maize stover and maize bran only) was the control.

Why is it important?

The findings show that balanites aegyptiaca can be used as a supplement for urea treated maize stover in order to improve total feed intake, apparent nutrient digestibility and average daily weight gain because it has the potential as a protein supplement for low quality basal feeds.

Perspectives

I believe this article will go a long way in helping farmers to know that cereal crop residues can be upgraded and be more properly utilized through supplementation with browse leaves.
