What is it about?
Disintegrants are essential in the formulation of solid dosage forms such as tablets because they aid in the release of the active drug for therapeutic action. Disintegrating agents such as starch are currently posing challenges such as tablet softening and slow disintegration. In the quest for alternative disintegrants, Khaya senegalensis gum was considered.

Why is it important?
Currently, there is no available literature pertaining to disintegrating property of Khaya senegalensis gum which offers an alternative source of cheaper and readily available disintegrant for solid dosage formulations.
Perspectives
Gums have been exploited in the pharmaceutical field for various uses nonetheless, some gums are hard to come by. Mahogany trees are located in almost any country and in large quantities hence offering a more readily available source of gum for use in formulation of dosage forms. I hope this article creates the awareness and more exploits are carried out with this research.
