Fair value reporting has created lot of research interest recently. We examined the effect that fair value reporting has on the value of quoted firms in Nigeria

Why is it important?

Our findings show that fair value reporting does not significantly affect the reported profitability of the firms sampled. However, the study discovered that to effectively evaluate the financial performance and position, knowledge of fair value is not enough. Users also need to know the historical cost of the investment.

Perspectives

It is our hope that this article provokes more research around the theme, to understand the effect of fair value variable on firm valuation
