What is it about?

The spice (clove basil); used in making a kind of delicacy (pepper soup) was processed and tested on some microbes especially those that are associated with cough and other upper respiratory tract infections. The result proved its effectiveness and thus can be recommended for consumption especially for people suffering upper respiratory tract infections to include cough.

Why is it important?

Nowadays, multiple drug resistance has developed due to the indiscriminate use of commercial antibiotics commonly used in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. Moreover, antibiotics are sometimes associated with adverse effects on the host including hypersensitivity, immune-suppression and allergic reactions. This situation thus prompted this research to scientifically ascertain the ethnopharmacological claims of the spice.

Perspectives

Conducting and writing this research was a relief for me as regards my inquisitiveness about the scientific affirmation of the ethnopharmacological claims of the spice. Again, working with co-author from whom a whole lot was learnt.
