What is it about?

This study was aimed at determining the phytochemical constituents and antibacterial potential of Cynodon dactylon leaf extracts against Escherichia coli.

Why is it important?

The Cynodon dactylon ethanol and aqueous extracts showed antibacterial activity against the susceptible E. coli ATCC 25922 and resistant E. coli BAA-2469. The C. dactylon extracts are potential sources of useful phytochemicals and can be a potential source of useful natural plant products as alternative antimicrobial drugs as claimed by traditional healers.

Perspectives

Further research studies to isolate, identify, characterize and elucidate the structure of the bioactive compounds of Cynodon dactylon extracts to explore more in molecular level approach against various bacterial diseases.
