What is it about?
Role of iodine in human growth and development is not unknown to us. Intake of packaged dietary salt fortified with adequate level of iodine is considered as the cheapest way to encounter iodine deficiency induced physical and mental disorders among children, expectant women and elderly people. Household level salt related knowledge and particularly salt storage practices may influence the quantity of iodine we can get through table salt. Therefore, this study focused on iodine content and storage practices of salt at household level.

Why is it important?
Previous studies on this field targeted mainly on content of iodine in edible salt at factory, retail shops and at household level, but information on the storage practices of salt at the household level that may potentially impact ultimate salt iodine concentration was always overlooked. An attempt was taken in this study to cover this gap.
Perspectives
I think that future studies will take into account about the salt storage practices of the householders in addition to estimation of iodine content in dietary salt.
